A Brief Narrative of TIUA Community Service

TIUA Students Tokyo International University of America (TIUA) students have a rich history of service not only in the Willamette and Salem communities but also across America. They participate in campus-sponsored events such as Take-a-Break and Kids Play Day, along with organizing cultural events such as an annual Japanese Day Camp and Hiroshima-Nagasaki Peace Exhibition. Some students have dedicated their summers to service with disaster relief efforts or Summer Take-a-Break trips, and others volunteer year-round at places such as H.O.M.E. Youth Center, CCTV, and Friends of Felines. Service learning is integral to students’ experience abroad, and its impact on both students and community is evident in the 10,609 hours of service completed by TIUA students in 2006.
