Materials from the Summit

Summit Goals

The PCC presents a number of interesting challenges and opportunities. It is our hope to bring together some of the key decision-makers from signatory schools in the Pacific Northwest to begin thinking collaboratively about how we might address them. To accomplish that goal, this meeting would be organized as a series of roundtable discussions. Potential topics for discussion include:

  • What does campus climate neutrality mean? How do we measure it? Do past efforts count?
  • Climate action plans: How should they be structured? Who should be involved in their development and review? What information should they include?
  • What is a reasonable timeline for achieving campus climate neutrality?
  • What are the challenges and potential pathways to achieving campus climate neutrality?
  • Is there scope for collaborative efforts?

  • Roundtable Session #2 – What are the challenges and pathways to achieving climate neutrality?
  • Wrap up – Sharing of ideas from smaller group discussions. Opportunities for collaboration?

Meeting Location and Directions

The meeting will take place in the Alumni Lounge on the third floor of the Putnam University Center (building 34 on campus map), and parking is available in the guest parking lot on the corner of Winter Street and Bellevue street. A campus map along with driving directions can be found online at: http://www.willamette.edu/map/campus_map.pdf.

Preparing for the Summit

As the meeting will be devoted to discussion, it will be unnecessary to prepare anything like a formal presentation. However, it will be useful for participants to come prepared to discuss the current thinking about the PCC at their home institutions. What strategies have been discussed or undertaken? What questions have arisen?

AASHE has provided some suggestions about how schools might move toward climate neutrality on the PCC website. It might also be useful to explore these resources before the meeting.
