A freshman at West Salem High School, Anaisa has an inspirational outlook on life, one that she partly attributes to her involvement at Willamette Academy. Alfredo
Alfredo has come a long way since he moved from Mexico to Oregon at the age of nine. He struggled to learn English and was one of the few students in his elementary school’s English as a Second Language (ESL) program. Soon after becoming fluent in English he was nominated by a teacher to apply to Willamette Academy. Personal drive and family support motivated Alfredo in joining the Academy and continue to play central roles in his pursuit of higher education and intellectual growth. Read More

Delia knows something about being caught between two worlds. Although she was born in Portland and grew up in Salem, her parents came from Mexico and speak Spanish at home. Rather than being detrimental to her education, Delia believes she has an advantage by being bilingual. In the future, she hopes to learn more languages, including Japanese and sign language. Megan
Unlike many high school students her age, Megan Southward already has a different perspective on living in Oregon. Megan grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and lived with her grandparents for five years while her parents took care of her little brother after having heart surgery. She describes the people here as “different” and misses her native state. After high school, she wants to return to Florida to attend the University of Miami to study accounting and finances. Willamette Academy reaches out to historically underrepresented communities by empowering youth who have the desire and potential to advance to higher education.
This academic program is designed to address a number of factors that may discourage certain students from attending college or otherwise impede their academic progress. We are committed to helping our students achieve at a level that will enable them to attend the four-year college or university of their choice.
