We believe that constructive debate lies at the foundation of a liberal arts education. Accordingly, our forensics team and other organized debate functions have for years excelled at competitions throughout the world.
For example, our Willamette team was victorious at last year's Oregon Independent College Foundation Ethics Bowl, at which they won every match and compiled a record-setting score of 530 out of a possible 600. And this is not just some obscure exercise in academia - the whole event is based on debating contemporary issues and finding real solutions. The members of these teams are not just debaters - they are leaders.
In addition, a Willamette student recently captured first place at an international debate tournament in Poland. Remember, though, that for all the globetrotting, our students still don't have to travel far to get to the National Parliamentary Debate Association's annual workshop - it's hosted by Professor Robert Trapp here on the Willamette campus.
