Course Overview: Career Module of Pace
The Career Module of PACE consists of eight class sessions within the PACE fall curriculum. The course is graded on a pass / no-pass basis. A passing grade for the Career Module is required to pass GSM 5108A. There are two main components of the course: 1) Developing and implementing a Career Action Plan by going through the steps outlined in the Career GPS and 2) Participating in a simulated job application process (resume, cover letter, phone screen and interview).
Module Description: The latest Gallup research indicates that only 33% of employees are engaged at work and yet workgroups of engaged employees have higher productivity and profitability rates, and reduced rates of safety incidents and absenteeism. Finding a job that uses your strengths is the key to being engaged at work and people who are engaged at work know what's expected of them and believe they can do their best. In order to find your ideal job, where you wake up every morning excited to go to work, the Career Management team encourages you to engage in our step by step workbook, called the Career GPS located online and in your Career Planner. This workshop based course is designed to move you through the steps in the Career GPS, setting you up to compete well for MBA internships. This course is taught in the fall of your first semester because the vast majority of MBA internships will be posted in January/February for summer term. That said, some companies have already posted their internships and will interview in the fall, so we encourage students to start early.
NOTE: While the Career Module is designed around the typical professional job search timelines for Early Career and Career Change students, you are responsible for your own career and if modifications to the outlined plan need to be made, you must talk with the Facilitator for the course in order to gain the points necessary to pass.
