March 17, 2011 – When international events unfold, managers thinking about the safety and security of their workers use the advice created by Lisbeth Claus, Professor of Global Human Resources. As an expert in global human resource management, workers that cross borders and employee duty of care, Claus offers insights and advice through presentations, papers and situation-based examples. After last week’s earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Claus and a student research associate developed a case based on a real Japanese bank. The example highlighted the importance of employee communications and “I’m ok” policies. The timely nature of the vignette drew significant praise as trainers and professors utilized the example in classes around the globe. In response to political events unfolding in the Middle East and North Africa, Claus was again quoted by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), outlining the importance of employer duty of care in protecting the safety and security of employees abroad.
