"Today, financial markets and institutions are more free, more interconnected, more global, and more sophisticated than ever."

Message

Some modern opinion about financial markets and institutions elevates them to an exalted status. American political strategist, James Carville, summarized what he learned about the power of financial markets by saying that if there were migration of souls he would like to come back as the bond market. International financier, George Soros, suggested that companies and governments put on a show and the financial markets write the review.

Although hyperbolical, those opinions reflect the impact of financial markets and institutions on industrial development, international trade, economic policy, political power, and the creation of wealth.

Today, financial markets and institutions are freer, more interconnected, more global, and more sophisticated than ever. Today, we also better understand what really matters for the creation of wealth. One of the objectives of the Atkinson School faculty is to impart this knowledge to our students.
