88 for 88
The Class of 1988 Scholarship and Campus Life FundThe Class of 1988 committee is organizing a class gift in honor of our 25th reunion. We are seeking to endow a scholarship fund that will award a Willamette student with a scholarship every year in perpetuity. Many classes endow scholarships as they are critical to making sure students can afford a Willamette education. But, we are the class of ‘88 and believe we should both support student financial aid and help students make campus better. So, we are seeking to make our scholarship special by providing both the college scholarship and a small grant to fund a campus program or activity (music, speaker, social function, etc.) organized by the scholarship winner with a grant from our fund.
This is how it will work: The university gives scholarships of 5% of the endowed fund each year. The minimum endowed scholarship fund is $50,000* and at that level provides an annual scholarship of $2,500. We will seek to raise this plus an additional $10,000 to provide an annual campus life grant of $500. The student who wins our scholarship will have the option of filling out a simple one page application that shares their idea to get the grant. If they choose not to use the activity grant the funds stay in our account, earn returns and grow the fund. If we exceed our initial $60,000 goal or add to it in the future 88% of additional funds will add to the scholarship and 12% to the campus life grants.
