Information for the semester break
No doubt many parents are making travel and vacation plans for the holidays and the semester break. Here's a list of helpful information you might want at your fingertips.
Important dates
Dec. 10 - Last day of class, fall semester
Dec. 13-18 - Final exams
Jan. 17 - First day of class, spring semester
If you'd like a more complete list of dates for the spring semester, visit the Academic Calendar page.
Residence hall check-out/check-in
Students are required to check out of their residence hall within 24 hours after their last final or by Sunday at noon if they have a Saturday final. Residences halls open again at noon on January 15 for the spring semester. For more information about important residence hall dates, visit the Dates to Remember page for Residential Services.
Transportation to PDX
The Associated Students of Willamette University schedule a number of shuttles to Portland International Airport for the end of the semester. The cost is only $10. Visit the ASWU Services page for a complete schedule.
If the ASWU shuttles do not meet the needs of your student, the next best alternative (besides a friend heading toward Portland!) is the HUT Airport Shuttle service, a private shuttle company in Oregon. They have shuttles running between Salem and PDX every two hours.
Weather information
Information about whether or not Willamette is closed because of a snow or ice storm can be found in several locations:
1. The University switchboard will have a recorded message: 503-370-6300.
2. www.willamette.edu homepage will have a message posted in the upper-right hand corner.
3. A campus e-mail will be sent in the event of a closure.
Everything else
If you have other questions about the semester break, other parents can be a great source of information. We have a network of parents available through our Parent Listserv which you can join now.
Or, if you would like to speak with a university representative about an issue, contact Andrew McNall, Director of Parent Relations, at amcnall@willamette.edu or 503-370-6636. Have a wonderful winter!
