Despite the fact that students have left campus, it'll still be a busy summer. There are alumni events in place in Portland, Seattle and Puget Sound, and Boise -- read about them on the events webpage. Also, don't forget that Alumni Weekend is spooling up -- registration materials and the much-anticipated schedule of events are just around the corner!
Many of you will already have received the latest issue of The Scene, which mailed late last month. This edition rolls in a few more changes and updates, and, as always, we'd like to hear your comments. Just email firstname.lastname@example.org, or, better yet, visit the new magazine website. This time around, we also have an online extra that will tell you more about the history of science at Willamette.
Also, we're saddened to say that Bob Hawkinson, longtime administrator, advocate and friend, passed away May 23. The news came suddenly and as a shock to the Willamette community. There will be a memorial service on campus Sunday, June 5, at 2 p.m., in Hudson Hall. Alumni and friends are welcome to attend. Those wishing to make a gift in Bob's honor can do so by contributing to the Robert E. Hawkinson Student Initiative Fund here at Willamette (donate now online). Finally, alumni and friends can visit a blog, http://rememberingthehawk.blogspot.com, to read and submit fond memories of Bob.
Finally, we'd like to take this end-of-fiscal-year opportunity to thank the thousands of you who have supported Willamette, in all the ways that you do, over the last 12 months. You make our work on behalf of current (and former!) students possible.
Have a safe and happy summer.
