GSE unrolls new Certificate in Writing with the Oregon Writing Project
Licensed teachers now have a new professional development opportunity via the Certificate in Writing program, a collaborative initiative between the GSE and the Oregon Writing Project (OWP).
Over the summer GSE Professor Karen Hamlin received a $35,000 matching grant supporting the activities of the OWP at Willamette, a program that promotes excellence in the teaching of writing at all educational levels and subjects through professional development and community involvement.
This is the 15th consecutive year Hamlin and the OWP have earned funding from the National Writing Project.
Hamlin and other OWP site leaders began courses for the new certificate program this summer. Eighteen local teachers are currently attending a four-week institute to develop and share effective strategies, study current research, and draft and edit their own writing for publication.
The certificate coursework will complete the elective requirements for the graduate school’s Master of Education (MEd) degree.
