A dedication to honor Coach Charles Bowles
The Department of Athletics invites you to a special reception in memory of Charles Bowles, emeritus track and cross country coach, professor and administrator, who passed away Dec. 30, 2005.
Charles Bowles Statue Dedication
Sept. 29, 2012
McCulloch Stadium, finish line of the Charles Bowles Track
Please RSVP online by Sept. 20
In memory of Coach Bowles' legendary career at Willamette, the university will dedicate a statue in his honor at the finish line of the Charles Bowles Track at McCulloch Stadium. The statue will be dedicated during the 38th annual Charles Bowles Cross Country Invitational on September 29, 2012 at approximately 10:45 a.m. The statue was commissioned by Robert Hess, a respected Northwest artist and emeritus professor of art at Willamette.
Willamette alumni, parents, friends and members of the Oregon track community are encouraged to attend this special event. The Bowles Invitational is widely considered a premier cross country race on the West Coast, and it regularly features nationally-ranked teams from NCAA Division I, II, III and the NAIA. The event has featured future Olympians, including Willamette alumnus Nick Symmonds and 2012 Olympic silver medalist, Galen Rupp.
We also hope that you will consider supporting the Bearcats at our morning races before the dedication ceremony. A complete meet schedule can be found below.
For more information contact Chris Sabato, assistant cross country and track & field coach, at email@example.com.

Introducing the Cardinal Club
The women's and men's teams here at Willamette are offering parents, alumni and fans unprecedented access to the program via a brand new Cardinal Club program, which allows supporters:
- Two season tickets with priority seating behind the bench at home games
- Appetizers and beverages in between women's and men's games in a private room in Sparks Center
- Chalk Talk sessions with Coach Peg Swadener (women's) and Coach Kip Ioane (men's), as well as players, before and after games
- Official Cardinal Club polo, t-shirt, or long-sleeve shirt
A preview of the Cardinal Club will be set up and running in between the two alumni games on Nov. 3.
Current recruiting season brings influential first-year Bearcats
Athletics inform the character of campus, and often it is the rising stars who help to define athletics. This year, Willamette is happy to welcome a few promising young athletes whose careers are just taking off. Here's a breakdown, courtesy of the Department of Athletics.
Brandon Luedtke: First team all-state and first team all-conference selection from Meridian, Idaho. The 6’5” forward led the state with just under 10 rpg and averaged 13 ppg on 60% shooting.
Rachel Fleener: four-year varsity letter winner from Olympia High School. Fleener was also the ASB President for 2011-12 and was selected by the faculty as the Olympia High School Scholarship recipient as the top all-around student.
Elise Levy: the Reno, Nev., high school star recently played in the First Tee Open, a Pebble Beach Champions Tour event, shooting 69-69 in both rounds.
Gabe Deleon (H) Henry Adelman (LB) join the Bearcats after serving as teammates on the Arroyo Grande High School (Calif.) football team. The teammates were joined by another new Bearcat, J.T. Wells (LB) of Nipomo High School (Calif.), in the 2012 FCA All-Star Football Classic.
