February 2013
Here's a treat: The U.S. Navy band will play at Willamette Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Smith Auditorium. The band has performed a wide array of marches, patriotic selections and other works at public concerts and high-profile events for more than 85 years — including 21 presidential inaugurations. For free tickets, contact the music department at 503-370-6255. Tickets will also be available at the box office Feb. 15, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The photo to the right shows sorority members gathering on Jackson Plaza to celebrate bid day on Jan. 26. Sorority recruitment resulted in 86 women joining Willamette's three chapters. The average size of a Willamette sorority chapter is 105 members, the largest in over a decade. Fraternities held their recruitment as well, resulting in 59 new members.
Travelers, take note: The travel program has unveiled two new upcoming trips:
- French Waterways (Oct. 8-20): Visit the Burgundy and Provence areas of France by ship! Hang out with Jim Booth '64!
- Deschutes River Rafting (July 5-7): Float through Central Oregon on an affordable, fully guided tour with Erik Schmidt '05!
Remember, too, that Liberty Mutual offers special savings to Willamette alumni on auto and home insurance. If you're in the market, check out your options.
Finally, an event alert: $tart $mart, our salary and benefits negotiation workshop made especially (but not only) for women, is approaching Feb. 28. There is no charge for alumni to attend, but you must RSVP in advance. Put the right foot forward!
