Welcoming Our Incoming Students - And Their Parents!
Last Thursday, 544 new students, 49 transfer students and 24 international students began their eagerly anticipated orientation to campus life at Willamette. Returning students joined them over the weekend to prepare for the start of classes today.
This year's incoming class comes from 32 states and 13 countries. Oregon has the most students in the class, with 157, followed closely by California (135) and Washington (116). The other states in the top 10 for number of new students include Idaho, Hawaii, Alaska, Colorado, Arizona, Montana and Utah.
The incoming class was selected from a highly-qualified group of applicants. The class includes 53 valedictorians and 5 salutatorians. The median High School GPA of entering students is 3.75 and most were in the top 20% of their high school class.
The campus population for the fall semester will surpass 2,000 students. Included in this in this total are Willamette University and Tokyo International University students, as well as international students. Students will find the campus a tremendously rich and diverse place with so many academically strong and intellectually curious classmates.
If you are a first-year parent at Willamette, welcome to the university. Make sure you read the welcome message from Jean & John Brennan, co-chairs of our Parents Advisory Council. There's a lot for you to discover here. Keep the parents website bookmarked and look at the events page regularly. You are welcome on campus for all public events and speakers.
