Agarycheva #9 in West Region Tennis Rankings
Agarycheva reached the finals in singles at the Wilson/ITA Small College Northwest Regional in early October. She also combined with Palmer to advance to the finals in doubles.
The #1-ranked player in the West Region is Liz Lewis of Chapman University (Calif.). Abby Olbrich of Linfield College, who defeated Agarycheva in the finals of the Northwest Regional, is listed at #8 in the West Region rankings and is the highest ranked player from the Northwest Conference.
Olbrich and Sally Katter, who held off Agarycheva and Palmer in the Northwest Regional finals in doubles, are ranked #2 in the West Region. The top doubles team in the Region is formed by Paige Sumida and Rachael Miller at the University of Redlands (Calif.).
Willamette has completed its fall tennis schedule. The Bearcats will return to action on Feb. 6, when they will take on the University of Puget Sound at the Courthouse Tennis Club at 1379 Madison NE in Salem, Ore. Match time is set for 2 p.m. (PST).
Fall '09 All-Northwest Conference Roundup
Senior midfielder Casey Dineen (Portland, OR/Jesuit HS) has been selected Second Team All-Northwest Conference in voting by the NWC head coaches. WU players Luke Lagattuta (Sr., MF, Albuquerque, NM/Highland HS) and Erik Kaufman (So., F, Portland, OR/Grant HS) received Honorable Mention.
The Willamette University women’s soccer team finished their season with a 9-9-2 overall record and an 8-7-1 Northwest Conference record, good for third place in the NWC. For their efforts, five individuals received All-NWC honors for the Bearcats. Read the full article.
After completing their most successful season since 2004, three members of the Willamette University volleyball team have been recognized by the Northwest Conference for their efforts. Senior Jessie McGraw (OH, Gaston, OR/Corban College) was chosen Second Team All-NWC. Molly Blankenship (Jr., OH, Spokane, WA/Spokane Falls CC) and Julie Stutzman (Sr., MH, Olympia, WA/Olympia HS) were named Honorable Mention All-NWC.
A total of eight Willamette University football players have been chosen First Team All-Northwest Conference for the 2009 season in voting by the NWC head coaches. Willamette also placed seven players on the Second Team and five players received Honorable Mention. Inside linebacker Ralph Pineda (Jr., Los Angeles, CA/Cathedral HS/San Jose State Univ.) of Willamette was chosen NWC Defensive Player of the Year.
Bearcat Cross Country Takes 20th at National Championships
Willamette took 20th place in the men's team standings at the NCAA Division III National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Highland Park Golf Course. It was Willamette's seventh Top 20 finish since 2001. North Central College (Illinois) won the men's team title.
