This issue of WU News is the first that our newest alumni will receive -- welcome, Class of 2010! To catch up on commencement and the latest group of Willamette graduates, take a look at the feature in this edition.
We're also happy to announce the election of new officers to the Willamette University Alumni Association (WUAA) board of directors. The purpose of the WUAA is to promote the interest of Willamette and establish and maintain life-long and mutually beneficial relations between the University and its current and future alumni. Basically, these key volunteers serve as liaison and voice for the alumni body.
The following alumni assumed their new roles at the turn of Willamette's fiscal year this month:
- Brian Hufft '01, president
- Melissa Wilmot '03, vice president
- Diane Babbit '84, secretary
We want to recognize Jay Booth '91, who has completed his role as board president. He will continue to serve as past president through the coming year. Many thanks to our other directors who completed their services this fiscal year:
- Paul Boaden '77
- Julie Branford '67
- Duane Button '84
- David Chiappetta '89
- Chris Hall '83
- Heidi Patterson '75
- Terry Shuchat '62
- Michael Trotter '98
- Gabrielle Williams '96
In addition to fielding a number of initiatives, our board achieved a 100 percent collective giving rate to the university for the 2009/10 fiscal year, which is no small benefit.
Also, we received word a short time ago that Dick Lord, professor emeritus of English, passed away in late May. Lord also contributed to the Latin and classics programs while at Willamette.
