Can it be August already? Although the month is mostly ahead of us, classes begin in just four weeks. Here are a few reminders for the new school year.
Opening Days starts Thursday, Aug. 26. Opening Days is open to freshmen and transfer students so they can begin their orientation to campus life. Residence halls officially open for returning students on Sunday, Aug. 29 at 10 a.m. and the first meal plan meals are served on Monday, Aug. 30. Classes begin Tuesday, Aug. 31.
Communicating with other parents is easy to do online via our parent listserv. Here you can post messages or questions for parents, reply to messages and read responses from community members. While the listserv has been quiet over the summer, I expect lots of activity once school begins. Visit the parent listserv to join the network.
As always, we have a number of events this fall that you are welcome to attend. Our biggest event for you, Family Weekend, will be October 15-17. You will receive registration information early in September. Among the events will be an expanded wine tour this year. And, for you golfers, FORE Willamette will be Monday, Sept. 13 at Willamette Valley Country Club. The tournament benefits all athletic programs at Willamette and there are still a few spots available.
No doubt you already know about our campus event link. Check it frequently for a wide range of speakers, theatre and music performances and other things going on around campus.
It looks to be another exceptional year at Willamette. The entering freshman class has a very distinguished profile, which enhances the learning environment for everyone. I hope you have a chance to join us on campus this year.
