Season's greetings from Bearcat country!
We've already had a bit of snow with a little ice thrown in to signify the shift to winter. Sadly, there weren't quite enough cold days in a row to freeze the fountain on campus -- a perennial draw for pranksters and photographers alike -- but there's always the next storm...
In the meantime, we're celebrating the near-completion of another successful semester and the amazing recognition bestowed on professor (and more importantly, alumna!) Karen Holman '90 as Oregon's Professor of the Year. An actual rock star in her spare time, Professor Holman is the epitome of a liberal arts educator at work. While no one person can define the institution, her work -- combined with that of many other faculty, students, volunteers and staff on campus -- certainly helps.
Although the holiday season is a busy one, I hope you'll join us at one of the many WU winter activities or gather with others in your Bearcat family. With every interaction, we all have the opportunity to influence the institution's future, even if just a little bit. We all have a role (and a responsibility) in its success and sustainability, and our support and voices often have an impact well beyond what we realize. Our successes, struggles and reputation are shared. Let us all actively continue working to make Willamette University what we want it to be. Thank you for making us what we are today.
Happy holidays and best wishes in the new year!
