It's a big WU News this month, literally and figuratively: The summer and coming fall seem busier than ever, but this is also the first issue under the leadership of President Steve Thorsett. We're hoping that readers are as excited as we are about what lies ahead and, of course, those things that are going on around campus right now.
A few opening notes:
Come out to the ballgame with new students and President Thorsett
Alumni, incoming first-year students and President Thorsett will be enjoying the Aug. 27 Salem-Keizer Volcanoes baseball game as a welcome-to-WU event this year. Come join us! The ticket's on us.
Thanks to our San Juan kayakers
The Travel Program's recent smaller-scale venture to the San Juan Islands went wonderfully. We were thrilled with the big, fun group of Bearcat paddlers - look for fuller coverage in a future issue of The Scene. (For now, check out the sunset.)
Thank you to our Leadership Circle members
Willamette would like to recognize our alumni, parents and friends who generously supported the university last fiscal year at the Leadership Circle giving level. We sincerely appreciate your investment in our students, our faculty and the academic excellence of the university.
To see who's given at this generous level, visit the Leadership Circle online honor roll of donors.
TIUA reunion coming up in Tokyo
Alumni of the TIUA program will soon convene in Tokyo for this year's reunion celebration. The event will take place Oct. 15, and the location is still being set up. For information, contact Gunnar Gunderson at TIUA.
Nacho Cordova follow-up
Many alumni have written in about the loss of Nacho Cordova, professor of rhetoric and media studies. There was a beautiful celebration of Nacho's life in Hudson Hall last month, and we're still awaiting details on a second campus event to come after students are here in September. We'll keep everyone updated through the usual channels (here, on Facebook and via separate email). If you haven't already, you can check out a blog that was set up to collect memories and thoughts.
