New resources available in the undergrad Career Center

Career Services is one office every student should visit, especially before their senior year. With the semester now well underway, it’s a good time for students to see what’s new.

Last month Career Services launched the Career Roadmap. This program consists of four “assignments” that students can complete to prepare themselves for their future. It includes career testing, resume writing, building a web page portfolio, establishing networking, job search, mock interviewing, and much more. What is particularly unique is that faculty have agreed to assign these signpost tasks to students in their courses in each major. This means that every student graduating from Willamette will have completed some of the most critical steps in making themselves marketable to employers and graduate schools.

This year Career Services partnered with Admissions to invite all incoming freshmen (and their parents) to complete a resume using our online resume writing program, Optimal Resume. 300 students (about half the entering class) responded. We are impressed with the high quality of student scholars and leaders entering Willamette this year. These students have a strong advantage in moving their career forward because their resume will be a professional calling card.

If you’re coming for Family Weekend, October 14-16, you can visit Career Services in person. Friday, October 14, 3-5 p.m., Career Services will host an open house at their office in the Putnam University Center, third floor. We hope you’ll join us.
