GSE and TIUA partner for new Global Teaching Fellows program
The Graduate School of Education (GSE) and Tokyo International University of America (TIUA) have announced an innovative new program that unites two of Willamette's signature groups while boosting opportunities for rising teachers to get international teaching experience.
The Global Teaching Fellows program will allow Willamette MAT graduates to teach English in Japan at the TIU campus, as well as work with TIUA here in Salem. The two-year contracts will provide immersion experience and meaningful professional development for teachers, especially those who have completed an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsement.
The GSE and TIUA are beginning the first application process; teachers will be hired later this spring and head to Japan this summer for an orientation program. They will then be hired by TIUA and work here in Salem for a short time, after which they will move to Japan for the majority of their contract. The GSE hopes to eventually have a staff of 20 MAT grads teaching at TIU as Global Teaching Fellows.
