Annual lu‘au shares Hawaiian culture with community
Fire dancing, traditional Hawaiian food and student dancers were among the highlights of Willamette University’s 23nd annual lu‘au, held recently in Sparks Athletic Center.
More than 45 students from the Hawai‘i Club worked for months to plan and execute the popular event, a long-standing tradition that shares Hawaiian culture with the Willamette and Salem communities.
This year’s theme was Pōhai Ke Aloha, which translates to “surrounded in love.” Dances from a wide array of students of mixed cultural backgrounds helped promote sharing and community.
Willamette has assembled a photo gallery of the event that captures a bit of the colorful experience.
