Dr. R. Skip Kenitzer began his tenure with Willamette University in 1993 as the head swimming coach and as a professor in the Department of Exercise Science. He is in his ninth year serving as an associate athletic director, as well as overseeing Willamette’s athletic facilities. Kenitzer served as the head swimming coach at Willamette from 1993 through 1998 and was a co-head coach of swimming from 1998 until 2001. In 1997, he was named the NAIA National Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year. Prior to coming to Willamette, Kenitzer was the head swimming coach and a professor in exercise science at Skimore College in upstate New York from 1988-93. He began his collegiate coaching career at the University of Northern Colorado, where he served as the head coach from 1986-88. Kenitzer graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., with a degree in Education. He obtained his master’s degree in Education from Northern Colorado and later received a Doctor of Education degree, also from Northern Colorado. Kenitzer and his wife, Jan, reside in Salem. They have two grown sons, Jason and Matt.
