Contri scores 18 in Bearcats' loss to Lake Forest
HONOLULU — Senior guard Rosie Contri scored 18 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a second-half surge by Lake Forest College in Willamette’s 73-53 loss to the Illinois school during the first day of the Division III Shootout at Kaimuki High School.
Contri hit seven of 17 shots from the field and pulled down six rebounds in 30 minutes of action. Junior Deanna Lund added seven points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Bearcats (4-3).
Lake Forest (6-0) led 32-29 at the half, before outscoring WU 41-24 in the final 20 minutes.
Willamette shot just 30 percent (17 of 57) from the field, while the Foresters shot 35 percent (27 of 78). WU also committed 23 turnovers.
The Bearcats resume action Sunday against Illinois Wesleyan. Willamette concludes play in the round-robin tournament on Monday against Elms (Mass.) College
