Bearcat swimming teams head to NWC championship meet at Linfield

Willamette’s men and women’s swimming teams will be at Linfield College in McMinnville Friday through Sunday for the Northwest Conference championship meet.

Prelims begin each day at 10 a.m., with finals scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The Puget Sound women have won the past six NWC championships and the UPS men are the defending conference champs as well.

The Bearcat women tied Pacific Lutheran for fourth place in the final NWC dual meet standings this season at 2-4, finishing behind Puget Sound (6-0), Whitworth (5-1) and Linfield (4-2).

The Willamette men also finished 2-4 to wind up in fifth place behind Whitworth (6-0), Puget Sound (5-1), Linfield (4-2) and Pacific Lutheran (3-3).

Five Bearcats enter the NWC meet ranked among the top four in at least one event. Below is a list of those athletes, with events listed in the order that they will be held during the championships.

Notes: Women precede the men in all events.

All events are prelims/finals, with the exception of the 1,650 freestyle, both 800 freestyle relays and all other men's relays. All heats other than the fastest women's and men's 1,650 heats will compete 30 minutes after the preliminary heats of the women's 400 freestyle relay on Sunday morning.

Linfield College Aquatics Center, 900 SE Baker Street, McMinnville, OR 97128 Linfield is located on Highway 99W in the middle of the Willamette Valley. It is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes southwest of Portland International Airport, 60 minutes southwest of downtown Portland; and 50 minutes northwest of the I-5 exit near Salem, Ore. The Linfield Aquatics Center is located at the corner of Linfield Avenue and Davis Street. On-street parking is available. There are also two parking lots adjacent to the pool.

Directions from Salem & Interstate 5 North to Linfield (courtesy of Linfield College):
Take State Highway 22 West (Exit No. 253) off of I-5 North. This will take you through part of downtown Salem. Proceed west on Highway 22 about 10 miles to the junction of State Highway 99W in Rickreall. Turn right on 99W and go north approximately 20 miles, passing through Amity and the Highway 18 exit, to McMinnville. Highway 99W turns right at the first stop light in McMinnville. Linfield Avenue is one-half mile north; turn right. The athletic complex is four blocks on your right.
