Contri impressive in NWC road loss at Linfield

McMINNVILLE — Linfield broke open a close game in the second half, out-scoring Willamette 38-26 in the final 20 minutes en route to a 64-48 Northwest Conference women’s basketball victory over the visiting Bearcats.

The Wildcats, who led by just four points (26-22) at intermission, improved to 12-8 overall and 6-5 in the NWC while WU fell to 7-12 and 1-9, respectively.

The hosts took control of the game with a 12-3 run to open the second half, extending their halftime lead to 38-25 with 13:30 remaining in the game. Linfield shot 63.6 percent from the field in the second period and out-rebounded the Bearcats 42-29 for the game.

Willamette was led by senior guard Rosie Contri, who finished with 14 points, a game-high 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals. Simmie Muth added nine points and four assists.

Linfield guard Heidi Jurgens’ had 17 points and five assists.

The Bearcats return home to Cone Field House Saturday night when they take on Lewis & Clark in a 6 p.m. NWC contest.
