Sorenson helps Bearcats end skid with 61-58 win over Whitman
SALEM — Senior center Kasey Sorenson scored a season-high 18 points to lead Willamette to a 61-58 Northwest Conference women’s basketball win over Whitman in Cone Field House.
The victory ended a five-game losing streak for the Bearcats (8-13, 2-10 NWC). Whitman fell to 7-14 and 5-8 in conference play.
Sorenson scored all but two of her points in the second half as Willamette built an 11-point lead. She made 7 of 8 shots from the field, all four of her free throws and pulled down six rebounds in 20 minutes.
The Bearcats’ Rosie Contri added 12 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Willamette out-rebounded the Missionaries 47-38.
Whitman had three players score in double figures, led by Megan Higgins’ 16 points. Mandee Romero added 12 points and Stephanie Lien chipped in with 10.
Both teams are back in action Saturday night. Whitman plays at Linfield while Willamette hosts NWC co-leader Whitworth.
