Linfield broke open a close game in the second half, out-scoring
Willamette 38-26 in the final 20 minutes en route to the Northwest
Conference victory over the Bearcats. The Wildcats led by just four
points at intermission, 26-22. The hosts took control of the game
with a 12-3 run to open the second half, extending their halftime
lead to 38-25 with 13:30 remaining in the game. Linfield shot 63.6
percent from the field in the second period. Willamette was led by
guard Rosie Contri (Sr., Douglas HS, Minden, Nev.), who finished
with 14 points, a game-high 10 rebounds, three assists and three
steals. Simmie Muth (Jr., North Bend HS) added nine points and four
assists.
Feb. 8 Lewis & Clark 80, at Willamette 64
Lewis & Clark erased an eight-point halftime deficit by
outscoring Willamette 50-26 in the second half Saturday night en
route to the NWC win. Willamette was led by Simmie Muth (Jr., North
Bend HS), who scored 17 of her 19 points in the first half. She
also had eight rebounds. Deanna Lund (Jr., Ridgefield HS, Wash.)
added 15 points and seven boards for the Bearcats.
NOTES: Individually, guard Rosie Contri (Sr., Douglas HS, Minden,
Nev.) ranks third in the NWC in assists (3.25 apg), fourth in
steals (2.25 spg), fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.07:1) and
12th in scoring (11.1 ppg). Forward Deanna Lund (Jr., Ridgefield
HS, Wash.) ranks seventh in field goal percentage (44.4%), 10th in
rebounding (6.0 rpg) and 10th in scoring (11.1 ppg). Guard Simmie
Muth (Jr., North Bend HS) is second in steals (3.15 spg), seventh
in assist-to-turnover ratio (0.98:1) and 11th in scoring (11.1
ppg).
