McGrane named NWC Women's Athlete of the Week
Willamette sophomore Shannon McGrane was named on Tuesday as the
Northwest Conference Women’s Athlete of the Week.
McGrane, from Colville, Wash., led the Bearcats to the team title of the NWC Four-Way meet at George Fox
University on Saturday.
She won the 400 hurdles in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:04.31 and anchored the winning 4x400 relay (4:06.43). McGrane also finished second in the 100 hurdles (15.94).
Also in the meet at George Fox, Kari Holbert (Jr., Gresham HS) surpassed the NCAA provisional standard in the 3,000 steeplechase by winning that event in 11:28.54. Jake Stout (Jr., Portland Christian HS/lives in Brush Prairie, Wash.) did the same in the men’s steeplechase, besting the provisional mark of 9:23.00 by winning the event in 9:15.46.
Two Bearcats moved into Willamette’s all-time top 10 lists on Saturday as well. Bill Sandbo (So., Tigard HS) moved to No. 5 in the hammer with a winning toss of 160-3. Jessica Stow (So., Beaverton HS) moved to No. 7 in the pole vault with a second-place mark of 9-2 1/4.
