Track News Release
THIS WEEK: Bearcats to host two events this Friday and Saturday
Willamette will host two events this weekend at Charles Bowles Track: The Celebration of Distance on Friday at 5 p.m. and the Willamette Invitational on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The Celebration of Distance will include the 3,000-meter steeplechase, 5,000 and 10,000. LAST WEEK: Reece second, May third in Linfield
heptathlon/decathlon
Jazzmin Reece (So., Sehome HS, Wash.) and Tyler May (So., Siuslaw
HS) finished second and third, respectively, in the Linfield
heptathlon/decathlon last Tuesday in McMinnville. Reece finished
with a two-day total of 3,920 points, which tied her for No. 4
all-time in Willamette history. May placed third in the decathlon
with a total of 6,088. The women’s provisional and automatic NCAA
qualifying scores are 4,100 and 4,500, respectively. The NCAA
decathlon scores are 6,000 provisional and 6,550 automatic.

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS:
The Bearcats won both the men and women’s side of the NWC Four-Way
at George Fox on March 15 … Shannon McGrane (So., Colville HS,
Wash.) was named the Northwest Conference Women’s Athlete of the
Week on March 17 … Nick Symmonds (Fr., Bishop Kelly HS, Idaho) won
the 800 in the Oregon Preview with a school-record and NCAA
automatic qualifying time of 1:51.18. The previous school record in
that event had stood for 45 years after Dale Hartman ran a 1:51.94
in 1958.
