Vande Griend wins NWC pitching honor again

Apparently Zach Vande Griend didn't like sharing the Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Week honor last week.

He earned the honor all by himself on Monday after recording a win and a save over the weekend against Whitworth.

Vande Griend, who lowered his ERA to 3.31, improved his overall record to 3-4.

In Saturday's first game against Whitworth, Vande Griend struck out 14 and did not issue a walk in a 4-3 Bearcat win. He allowed seven hits, including three solo home runs.

In Sunday's third and final game of the series, Vande Griend got the final two outs in a come-from-behind 11-10 victory that extended Willamette's win streak to seven games.

In 51 2/3 innings this season, he has struck out 45 batters and walked just 10.
