games
-----Friday, April 18 at Pacific Lutheran*, 2:00
-----Saturday, April 19 at Pacific Lutheran* (2), noon
-----Tuesday, April 22 at Lewis & Clark*, 3:30
* Northwest Conference opponent
LAST WEEK: Bearcats fall to second place in NWC after going 2-2
-----Tuesday, April 8: Willamette 13, at Linfield 1
Willamette took advantage of nine Linfield errors and Bearcat LHP
Mike Allen (Fr., Ashland HS) was steady on the mound, striking out
five without a walk in eight innings work. Allen also came through
at the plate, going 3 for 5 with two RBI and a scored a run. RF
Matt Drahn (Jr., Taft HS) went 3 for 5 with an RBI.
-----Saturday, April 12: Pacific 7, at Willamette 6 (10)
Matt Lengwenus scored the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice in the
top of the 10th inning as Pacific upended Willamette 7-6 in a
Northwest Conference game at John Lewis Field. The Boxers appeared
to be cruising to an easy win as they went ahead 5-0. However, the
Bearcats tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh on a
grand slam home run by RF Matt Drahn (Jr., Taft HS), and went ahead
6-5 later in the frame when C Travis Shull (Jr., Westview HS)
scored on a ground out. But Pacific forced extra innings with a
single run in the top of the eighth. Willamette threatened in the
bottom of the ninth with two base runners and only one out, but
reliever Damian Munoz got an inning-ending double play.
-----Sunday, April 13: at Willamette 5-6, Pacific 7-5 (first
game 10 innings)
Willamette scored the winning run on a bases-loaded walk with two
out in the bottom of the ninth inning to earn a 6-5 victory over
Pacific and a doubleheader split with the Boxers at John Lewis
Field. Pacific won the opener, 7-5, in 10 innings. In the first
game, Pacific scored two unearned runs in the top of the 10th
inning. The Bearcats committed two infield errors in the frame
after two were out. Willamette had four players finish with two
hits: SS Colin Griffin (Jr., Jesuit HS), C Travis Shull (Jr.,
Westview HS), 1B Jason Chatterton (Gr., Clackamas HS) and 3B Andy
Bartels (Jr., Phoenix HS). One of Shull’s hits was a solo home run
to lead off the eighth inning. In the ninth inning of the second
game, the Bearcats loaded the bases after Shull singled both and
DH/RHP Brian Gilmore (So., McNary HS) and CF Drew Ecklund (Sr., San
Luis Obispo HS, Calif.) were hit by a pitch. After Chatterton
struck out swinging for the second out, Bartels drew a walk on a
3-2 pitch from reliever Derek Haner. The result made a winner out
of Gilmore, who pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning. Bearcat LHP Mike
Allen (Fr., Ashland HS) pitched eight innings, allowing 12 hits and
a walk while striking out five. None of the five runs scored
against him were earned. Allen also went 4 for 4 at the plate for
the Bearcats, while Griffin, Chatterton and RF Matt Drahn (Jr.,
Taft HS) each contributed two hits.
NOTES: The Bearcats are 8-1 this season in 1-run games …
three players have started all 25 games for WU this season: RF Matt
Drahn (Jr., Taft HS); CF Drew Ecklund (Sr., San Luis Obispo HS,

out only five times in 111 at-bats, and he is batting .355 against
lefties and .350 against righties … Willamette is batting .469 with
the bases loaded, compared to a .275 average for the opponents …
the Bearcats are also batting .337 with runners in scoring
position, compared to .248 for the opposition.
