Hertel, Hagen power Bearcats past Pacific
FOREST GROVE - Catcher Darcy Hertel and third baseman Marci Hagen combined for six hits and seven RBI to lead Willamette to a 14-6 Northwest Conference softball victory over host Pacific on Saturday.
The second game was suspended, with Pacific leading 5-1, in the fourth inning due to rain.
Hagen, the Bearcats' leadoff hitter, was 3 for 4 with three RBI and three runs scored in the first game. Hertel, batting third in the order, went 3 for 3 with four RBI and two runs scored.
The win improved Willamette's records to 8-9 overall and 6-3 in the NWC. Pacific fell to 8-10 and 2-5, respectively.
Willamette pitcher Teren Edgecomb improved her record to 5-6 on the season, despite giving up three runs in the first three innings.
WU took a commanding 8-0 lead thanks in part to four Pacific errors, three of which came in the five-run first inning.
