PLU averts series sweep, downs WU 4-2
TACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran Lutes (7-10 Northwest
Conference, 8-22) rebounded from a game one loss to defeat visiting
Willamette (13-5 NWC, 17-11), 4-2, Saturday in a Northwest
Conference baseball game.
Willamette won game one, 2-0.
In game two, the Lutes scored three unearned runs in the sixth inning to earn a 3-2 lead.
PLU right-handed pitcher Matt Serr threw a complete game, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits. With the Lutes holding on to their precarious one-run lead, the Bearcats had runners on second and third with one out in the eighth inning before Serr retired shortstop Colin Griffin on a fly ball to left field.
Bearcat center fielder Andy Bartels led off the ninth with a single, but Serr retired the next three batters to complete the Lute victory.
Bearcat right-handed pitcher Mike Allen pitched well, allowing four runs, one earned, on 12 hits in his eight innings of work.
