Willamette win eight of 11 races in Governor's Cup Regatta
VANCOUVER, Wash. — Willamette won eight of 11 races Saturday in the annual Governor's Cup Regatta at Vancouver Lake. Humboldt State and Lewis & Clark competed in the event along with the host Bearcats.
The event is usually held on the Willamette River in Salem, but had to be moved due to high water and swift currents.
The Willamette women won five of six races, including both Varsity 8 events, Novice 4, Lightweight 4 and Varsity 4.
The Bearcat men won three of five races, including Varsity 8, Varsity 4 and Novice 8.
WU's women Varsity 8 crews, which are ranked in a tie for 18th in NCAA Division III, won both races over Humboldt State. The first Varsity 8 crew won by a margin of 7:14.2-7:20.9. The Bearcats' second Varsity 8 won by a slim 7:40.1-7:42.6 margin.
