McGrane, Symmonds qualify for finals in 400 hurdles, 1,500, respectively
CANTON, N.Y. — Sophomore Shannon McGrane and freshman Nick Symmonds both qualified for event finals Thursday in the first day of the NCAA Division III track & field championships at St. Lawrence University.
McGrane qualified in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:02.49, which is just off her school record of 1:02.43. She finished fourth in her heat and earned the ninth and final slot for the finals on Saturday.
Symmonds qualified in the 1,500 in a time of 3:55.04. He was second in his heat and will be among 12 in Saturday’s final.
Also on Thursday:
· Sophomore Jazzmin Reece tallied 2,456 points through four of
seven heptathlon events, putting her in 14th place out of 20
competitors. The heptathlon concludes on Friday.
· Sophomore Zach Larsen finished in a three-way tie for ninth place in the high jump with a mark of 6-7. National champion Dan Olson of Wheaton (Mass.) cleared 7-1.
· Freshman Natalie Muren placed 14th in the 10,000 meters in a time of 36:57.75. National champion Mary Proulx of Keene State won the event in 34:08.59.
