Reece qualifies provisionally for NCAA meet in heptathlon
Jazzmin Reece recorded a personal best of 4,399 points in the heptathlon Friday in the Willamette Multi-Event held at Charles Bowles Track, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Division III championships later this month.
Reece’s score easily surpassed the NCAA provisional standard of 4,100 points and was a vast improvement over her tally of 4,001 points in the NWC heptathlon on April 15 in Tacoma, Wash.
Reece placed third behind Jenny Kenyon (4,911) and Julie Elliott (4,598) of the University of Portland. Kristina Bajema (4,261) of Pomona-Pitzer finished fourth.
Kevin Plummer won the decathlon with a score of 6,329 points. Willamette’s Tyler May (5,958) and K.C. Gillespie (5,809) finished second and third, respectively, while Grady O’Connor was fourth (5,718).
The NCAA Division III championships will be held May 22-24 in Canton, N.Y.
