Symmonds, Reece set WU record in Oregon Twilight

EUGENE - Freshman Nick Symmonds and junior Jazzmin Reece each broke Willamette school records Saturday during the Oregon Twilight.

Symmonds won the prestigious Bill McChesney Jr. Memorial Twilight Mile in a time of 4:03.85. The time converts to a 3:45 in the 1,500, which qualifies him for nationals and breaks the 1980 school record of David Fleming.

Reece won the 100 hurdles in 15.08, which broke last year's record of 15.13 set by Laura Leineweber.

Both times qualified Symmonds and Reece for nationals.

Other Bearcats setting NCAA provisional marks in Eugene were: Brian Roesler in the 800 (1:53.08); Scott Overby in the 1,500 (converted from 4:13.82 mile); Brennan Garrelts in the 110 hurdles (14.90); and Lindsey Patterson in the long jump (18-1).
