Willamette leads NWC with six titles; places fourth in all-sports rankings

Willamette led the Northwest Conference in the number of 2002-03 team championships won with six, and the Bearcats finished fourth in the final all-sports rankings that tabulates how the schools finish in each of the 18 conference sports.

WU won NWC titles in women's cross country, men's cross country, women's soccer (tied with Whitworth), men's golf, women's track & field and men's track & field. Linifeld and Whitworth each won four conference titles.

Linfield won this year's Jane McElroy-John Lewis All-Sports Trophy, scoring 122 of its 244 total points in the spring. Whitworth was second at 237 and Puget Sound edged Willamette for third, 222-221. Pacific Lutheran was fifth at 201.

Teams are awarded 18 points for first place, 16 for second place, etc.

Willamette picked up 16 points for second-place finishes in men's basketball and baseball. The Bearcats got third-place finishes in football and softball.
