Willamette, Puget Sound women go toe-to-toe in Division III races
SACRAMENTO - Willamette and Puget Sound each enhanced their chances of qualifying for the NCAA Championships on Friday during Division III West Coast races on Lake Natoma.
But only one school from the West Coast will advance to the national championships, which will be held May 30-June 1 in Indianapolis, Ind.
Puget Sound edged Willamette in the women's Varsity 8 race, while Pacific Lutheran and Lewis & Clark finished in third and fourth, respectively.
But in the Second Varsity 8 race, Willamette defeated, in order, Puget Sound, Lewis & Clark and Pacific Lutheran.
The first- and second-place finishes for WU and UPS on Friday enhances their West Coast standing heading into the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships Saturday and Sunday, also at Lake Natoma.
