Bearcats Crush Bees 8-0
SALEM — Six different Bearcats scored as the Willamette University women’s soccer team opened the 2003 season with a convincing 8-0 win over the Savannah College of Art and Design Bees.
Freshman Susan Butler got the Bearcats off early, scoring off an assist from senior Anne Merten just over 11 minutes into the game. Butler added an assist seven minutes later when she fed another freshman, Jessica Lammers for a 2-0 Bearcat lead.
Merten (pictured left), the second leading scorer in the Northwest Conference last season, got her first goal of the year at the 31:30 mark with assists to Butler and Stacey Clarke.
In the second half, sophomore Brenna Hindman scored at the five minute mark, again off a Merten assist.
The Bearcats scored four times in the final 15 minutes of the game. Freshman Laura Ulmansiek fed Lammers for her second goal. Freshman Danielle Eisenbarth scored two goals within three minutes, both with assists to Mariah Hanson.
Freshman Allison Tenold scored the Bearcats final goal off an assist from freshman Michelle Gregiore.
For the game, the Bearcats outshot the Bees 27-4.
