Hindman Scores Two Late Goals as Bearcats Rally Past George Fox 4-3 in OT
NEWBERG — Down by two goal late in the second half, the No. 8 ranked Willamette University women’s soccer team scored three times in the final 7:30 to defeat George Fox, 4-3 in overtime, and remain undefeated in 2003.
After falling behind 3-1, Susan Butler started the Bearcats (6-0, 3-0 NWC) comeback at the 83-minute mark when she scored off an assist from Laura Uhlmansiek.
Then Brenna Hindman took over. The sophomore forward scored with just under two minutes remaining in the game to tie the score. Michelle Gregiore got the assist on Hindman’s tying goal
Just 30 second into overtime, Hindman struck again when she converted a pass from Butler for the unlikely win.
Uhlmansiek had put the Bearcats up early when she scored at the 2:20 mark. Butler and Nicole Dahl got credit for assists.
Then the Bruins struck back, scoring the next three goals. The final one came at the 78-minute mark when Lacey Holman scored an unassisted goal to put GFU up 3-1.
Willamette outshot the Bruins 24-13. Bearcat goalie Kari Woody had seven saves.
The Bearcats put their 67-game home unbeaten streak on the line Saturday when they host the University of Puget Sound in a match featuring last year’s NWC co-champions. Pacific Lutheran visits Sunday. Both games begin at noon.
