Huge Weekend on Tap for Bearcat Athletics
SALEM: Bearcat fans will get their fill of sports this weekend with home volleyball, soccer and football games, and the 29th Annual Charles Bowles Willamette University Cross Country meet.
The huge week of sports starts with volleyball on Wednesday night against Warner Pacific. The 8-4 Bearcats volleyballers host Linfield Friday night in a Northwest Conference match-up.
Cross country, men’s and women’s soccer and football take center stage on Saturday.
Topping the list is the 29th Annual Charles Bowles Willamette University Cross Country meet where over 1300 runners take part in four separate races beginning Saturday at 8 pm at Bush Park.
Just about the time the last cross country race takes off, the No. 8 ranked Willamette University women’s soccer team puts its 67-game home unbeaten streak on the line when the women take on NWC arch-rival University of Puget Sound in a match-up of undefeated teams. Kick-off is at noon.
Thirty minutes after the women conclude, the Willamette University men’s soccer team looks to improve on its 3-0 NWC record when they host the UPS men.
On Saturday at 3 pm (note time change), the WU football team takes on Chapman in its last non-conference game before NWC play begins next week. The 2-2 Bearcats feature one of the nation’s most potent running games.
Soccer returns again on Sunday as both the men’s and women’s teams host Pacific Lutheran. Again, the women start at noon and the men play at 2:30 pm.
