Sanchez OT Goal Gives Bearcats a 2-0 NWC Record
FOREST GROVE - Ricardo Sanchez scored four minutes into overtime to put Willamette past Pacific 2-1 in Northwest Conference men's soccer action at Tom Reynolds Field Saturday.
Sanchez (pictured left) was in the right place at the right time, gathering up a ball that came off of the hands of Pacific goalkeeper Travis Lowe on the left side of the net. Sanchez caught Lowe out of position to score the game-winner.
The overtime goal capped a very physical match that saw a total of 40 fouls called between the two sides.
Pacific (3-2-0, 1-1-0 NWC) outshot Willamette (3-2-2, 2-0-0 NWC) 16-15, but the Bearcat defense held solid, giving Willamette its second straight NWC road win.
Matt McDonough put Pacific up 1-0 in the 75th minute, heading a deflection of a Matt Warner shot into the left corner of the goal.
Three minutes later, Ben DeSanno tied the score when his header on the left side caught the Boxer defense off-guard.
Dane Meier made seven saves for the Bearcats in the victory.
The Bearcats continue their road trip with a Sunday afternoon match at George Fox before returning home for a pair of games next weekend.
