Bearcat Football Crushes Panthers 54-0
Salem - In less than 3 hours the Willamette Bearcats took no mercy on the Chapman University Panthers to bring their overall record to 3-2 on the season.
The first quarter saw the Panthers with the first possession. With 5 plays the Panthers were only able to gain 8 yards.
With Willamette in possession Quentin Brock, a sophomore from Fresno, CA, scored a touchdown with 8:04 left on the clock. Fred Perryman's kick was good and the Bearcats were on the board with 7-0.
With 14:27 on the clock, quarterback Tyler Gaspard passed to Brett Meyer for 14 yards to score the second of Willamette's 8 touchdowns.
Less than two minutes later, Jeff Liepman rushed 12 yards to score the third touchdown. The kick attempt by Perryman failed leaving the Bearcats at 20-0.
The Bearcats failed to score again during the first half but with just over 2 minutes into the second the Bearcats were on fire, if they hadn't been before. Calvin Keyser-Allen rushed for 2 yards at the start of the play to the 37 yd line. Jeff Liepman then rushed for 7 yards. Ryan Hernandez was unable to come up with any yards gained during this play but came away with 80 total today, second only to Quentin Brock's 96 yds. Tyler Gaspard then rushed for 2 yards to get the Bearcats to the 46 yd line. Quentin Brock then rushed 54 yards for a touchdown. Gaspard's pass attempt to Jeff Liepman was good. The Bearcats were now up 28-0
Tim Speckman scored the next touchdown with a pass completion thrown by Tyler Gaspard, who was 9 for 13 to bring the Bearcats up to 35-0.
Cameron Walton went 5 for 7 today and made the next touchdown possible for the Bearcats passing 27 yards to Jeff Liepman. The touchdown was made by Ryan Hernandez, rushing 35 yards to the inzone.
The last quarter saw the Bearcats do more of the same. With 6:13 left on the clock the Bearcats' James Furlo, a Sophomore from Los Gatos, CA rushed 3 yards to lift Willamette to 48-0.
Bryann Turner made the final touchdown for Willamette, rushing 64 yards off of a punt by the Panther's Jesse Harmon, bringing the final score to 54-0.
The Panther's Chase Twedell (rb) had 40 yards, while Myron Mailo had 22. Dylan Hendy was 2 for 10 passing and Chase was 0 for 2. The Panthers are now 1-4 on the season.
Willamette had 28 first downs, 339 net yards, 146 passing yards, for a total offense plays-yards of 485 and 32:41 possession minutes.
Chapman had 8 first downs, 67 net rushing yards, 97 total offense plays-yards and had 27:14 possession minutes.
The Bearcats are now 3-2 on the season and play at home against Whitworth for the first conference game of the season. The game will be held at McCulloch Stadium at 1:30pm.
