Boxers Tie Bearcat Women, 0-0 in 2 OT
SALEM — While the Willamette University women’s soccer team (13-1-2, 8-1-2 NWC) kept its home unbaten streak intact at 71 games, the Pacific University Boxers (9-7-1, 4-6-1 NWC) dealt the Bearcats' Northwest conference title hopes a blow as the teams played to a 0-0 draw in two overtimes.
With the tie, the No. 6 ranked Bearcats drop into second place in the NWC. The University of Puget Sound, a 2-1 winner at Whitworth Sunday, takes over sole possession of first place in the conference.
Willamette controlled play most of the game and had plenty of chances to score, none more notable than freshman Laura Uhlmansiek’s shot off the top post with 30 seconds to play in regulation. But Pacific’s defense held firm all game as goalie Shannon Tillman recorded six saves on the Bearcats 17 shots.
Bearcat goalie Kari Woody made a huge save of her own, turning aside a low shot to the corner with a diving save late in the game. Woody had seven saves on ten Boxer shots.
The Bearcats play at home again next weekend, taking on Whtworth on Saturday and Whitman on Sunday. Both games begin at 11 am.
