Dahl's Goal in Second Overtime Give Bearcats 2-1 win over George Fox
SALEM — Nicole Dahl scored on a perfect pass from Joey Muchlinski as the No. 6 ranked Willamette University Bearcats (13-1-1, 8-1-1 NWC) hung on for a 2-1 double overtime win against the George Fox Bruins (3-10-1, 1-8 NWC).
It was the second time this season that the last-place Bruins nearly upset the Bearcats. Willamette earned a 4-3 overtime win on the road against GFU earlier this season.
This time, forward Brooke Erikson put George Fox on top at the 15:34 mark when she fired in a shot from the top of the box. Kiersten Lugenbill assisted on the play.
Anne Merten tied the game for the Bearcats with a penalty kick at the 56:32 minute mark.
Despite a large advantage in shots (30-11 for the game, 8-0 in overtime), the Bearcats were turned away by goalie Stacey Ozga as she recorded 16 saves in the match.
Finally, just over two minutes into the second overtime, Muchlinski (pictured above) hit a long pass from the right side of the field hitting Dahl as she streaked to the far post. Dahl chested the ball into the goal as the Bearcats avoided a major upset and kept their 70-game home unbeaten streak alive.
The Bearcats host Pacific Sunday morning at 11 a.m. at Sparks Field in another NWC contest.
