Cross Country Makes Success The Name of The Game
SALEM: Besides the two great wins for Willamette Cross Country at the NWC Championships the Bearcats have done outstanding in the classroom as well. To be named NWC All-Academic you have to hold a GPA of 3.50 or better.
Willamette Cross Country keeps making outstanding achievements. Here are some quick facts:
The Men’s Cross Country overall GPA was 3.40 and the Women’s was 3.67.
Men’s team titile is the 14th in school history. The most by any men’s program in Northwest Conference history!
Women’s title was their third in school history and third in the past four years. The first ever was won in 2000.
Jake Stout’s individual win Saturday was the 15th individual title in Northwest Conference history by a Willamette runner. By far the most by any men’s program in NWC history!
Between the two programs a Willamette runner has won 20 NWC individual titles, 15 for the men and 5 for the women.
Beth Fitzgerald (1999), Aaron Young (2000/2002), Kari Holbert (2002) and Jake Stout (2003) added 5 of them to the list over the past 5 seasons.
Kari Holbert (1), Danya Rumore (2), Natalie Muren (3), Katie Pierce (4), Molly Phimster (5), Lauren Sherwood (6), Amber Henderson (8) Carly Killam (9) and Ellen Beebe (10) all moved into WU's top 10 all-time for the 6k distance in cross country.
Danya Rumore (3) and Kari Holbert (4)
both moved up the top 10 all-time for the 5k distance this fall.
This weekend the Men and Women see NCAA West Regional action in Estacada, OR.
