Linfield Scores Three Late Goals to Overtake Bearcats 3-2
SALEM: Abe Gardner scored off an assist from Harald Haraldsen at the 85-minute mark as the Linfield Wildcats (16-2-1, 11-1-2 NWC) rebounded from a two goal deficit to defeat the Willamette University men’s soccer team, 3-2, in a Northwest Conference match Saturday afternoon in Salem.
After a scoreless first half, Willamette (8-8-3, 7-6-1 NWC) took the lead three minutes into the second half when Kyle Gouveia drove home a shot into the left corner past Wildcat goalie Phil Haines.
Adam Moshofsky made it 2-0 when his shot at the 56-minute mark deflected off a Linfield defender and into the right corner. A.J. Nash got the assist on Moshofsky’s goal.
Then the Wildcats turned up the pressure. Haraldsen scored the first Linfield goal when he knocked in a Jason Wong pass at the 70-minute mark. Eight minutes later Aleko Lilly tied the game when his shot hit the top post and fell just across the goal line.
Gardner scored the game-winning goal less than three minutes later to give the Wildcats the come-from-behind win.
For the game, Linfield out-shot Willamette 24-15. Willamette goalie Dane Meier and Linfield’s Haines both had six assist in the game.
