The University of Puget Sound defeated Willamette University tonight, in Northwest Conference action in the Memorial fieldhouse, three games to one game by the scores of 30-19, 29-31, 30-27 and 30-27.

Nikki Esposito led the Loggers with 20 kills, while Stephanie Ferris and Alena Bennett had 14 and 11 respectively.

Willamette had two big hitters on the night as Kristine Halleck collected 19 kills and Lauren Thompson had 17.

Game one had the two teams staying within two points of one another until back to back service aces by Megan Apperson pushed the Logger led to 17-13, and the Loggers never looked back as outside hitter Stephanie Ferris led the team with five kills in the game and Alena Bennett earned four. The Loggers had five service aces in game one and the Bearcats had four service errors.

The Bearcats trailed the Loggers throughout all of game two until taking its' first lead at 28-27, then pushing for 31-29 win on the arms of Kristin Halleck and Lauren Thompson with five kills each. The Loggers hurt themselves with five service errors.

Game three had nine ties and five lead changes as the Loggers pushed to an early 9-5 lead. But the Bearcats answered back taking a 13-12 lead. Kills by Sammons and Halleck gave the Bearcats at three-point cushion. A service error by Willamette combined with hitting errors by both teams and the score was 21-21. A Hillary Scott Logger-kill and then a Sammons kill and it was 22-22. Back to back kills by the Loggers and a Willamette service error made it a 25-22 Logger lead. Willamette kills by Halleck and Kirschner and the score was 29-26 Loggers. Service ace by Jodi Zaffino kept the Bearcats in the game 29-26 until another Scott kill and the 30-26 Logger win.

Game four had 19 ties and five lead changes. No more than two points ever separated the two teams, except in the final score of 30-27 in favor of the Loggers. Esposito came up big for the Loggers with eight kills and it was Halleck and Thompson trying to push the Bearcats to victory with nine and six kills respectively.

The Loggers had 94 digs on the night led by the stellar play of Tera Anderson's 24 digs. Puget Sound hit .249 on the night collecting 69 kills while Willamette hit .197 and earned 61 kills in the match. The Loggers out-blocked the Bearcats nine to just two.

The win pushes the Loggers to a three game match streak with a 7-8 NWC mark and a 16-11 overall. The Bearcats drop to 9-6 in the NWC and 17-8 overall. The Loggers will host #17th ranked Linfield College on Saturday at 7:00pm.
